The first cohort of the Real Green Jobs Accelerator Leeds External Wall Insulation Academy graduated at a special event held on 18 February to celebrate their learning achievement through hands-on technical skills and experience.
EN:Procure’s Deputy Chief Executive Jonathan Shaw spoke to attendees about how the learners have shown enthusiasm and resilience throughout the programme and how delighted he was that the project has had such a positive start.
Graduate Jevon Joell said, “I want to thank everyone involved for this journey and for seeing my potential. It means the world to me and my family. I’ve made lots of new friends and learned so much. This is definitely something I want to pursue as a career.”
Two learners have secured employment with Equans and Hamilton Building Contractors.
Designed to help address the construction skills shortage by upskilling people currently unemployed, the pioneering training scheme is led by EN:Procure in partnership with Leeds College of Building, West Yorkshire Combined Authority, Leeds City Council, Equans, DWP Job Centre Plus, Enable Futures, Jewson Partnership Solutions and Wetherby Wall Systems. The Leeds EWI has been funded through Equans and Leeds City Council’s commitment to boost skills and employability in the city, through the EN:Procure framework for installation, servicing, repairs and maintenance and direct financial support from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority.
The second cohort have already begun their learning journey.
