Doncaster Environmental Pride open for applications

The sixth round of Environmental Pride funding, which offers grants of up to £5,000 to community groups in Doncaster, is now open for applications.

The community fund, a joint initiative run by City of Doncaster Council and St Leger Homes, invites community groups in Doncaster to apply for funding and support with projects that demonstrate they both support the natural environment and make a difference to their community.

This funding stream is split into three categories, with groups invited to apply for one or more.

  • Category 1: Physical improvements to the natural environment (£100 to £5,000)
  • Category 2: Activities and events in public open spaces and community facilities (up to £500)
  • Category 3: For previous Environmental Pride grantees only – Top up maintenance fund to support existing projects (up to £500)

In addition to grant funding, community groups can request a range of support, including but not limited to:

  • Extra volunteer support
  • Business advice
  • Consultation with council officers
  • Promotion
  • Materials

Deputy Mayor Glyn Jones, Cabinet member for Environment and Housing, said: “It’s very rewarding to see how past funding recipients have transformed their ideas into meaningful community projects, supported by dedicated volunteers and council colleagues along the way.

“Support is available to anyone with a community-focused idea. Whether you’re already part of an established group or are just beginning to explore a project, we encourage you to get in touch.”

Chris Margrave, Chief Executive at St Leger Homes, said: “Environmental Pride is a great initiative that has supported our communities since 2022. In partnership with Doncaster Council, this project is part funded by St Leger Homes who have utilised their social value contributions. We have awarded over £150,000 to over 100 projects. This programme gives volunteer-led community groups who are not used to applying for funding amazing opportunities to run projects that are important to the local community and foster a sense of ownership and pride”

ESG Manager at EN:Procure Joe Came said, “Doncaster Environmental Pride is an inspirational initiative which Efficiency North have been proud to support since seed funding generated through our frameworks supported its establishment four years ago.  It’s great to see the initiative continue to flourish and gather support from organisations and businesses to ensure it will help improve the environment for local communities across the Borough of Doncaster for many years to come.”

The application process will be open to groups including:

    • Charities
    • Community Groups such as Friends of groups
    • Social and not-for-profit businesses
    • Tenant clubs and Associations

The application process will take place through a 15-minute expression of interest online survey.  Support over phone or email will be available throughout the application window and will also include two in-person and online ‘drop-in’ workshops session.
