Caddick Construction are progressing well with works on Hull City Council’s Dane Park development in the north of the city in spite of January’s freezing weather.
The project is all on programme with construction works at various stages and phases all around the site.
The 20 one-bedroom, 49 two-bedroom, 20 three-bedroom and 10 four-bedroom homes will all be available for affordable rent in 2027. All homes will have air source heat pumps (ASHPs) and photovoltaic roof panels, with the power generated going back to the property to help power the ASHPs. Some homes will also have Electric Vehicle charging points.
50 of the new homes have been designed to comply with Part M4 (2) for disabled access.
All homes are provided with flood proof protection measures and a sustainable drainage design is incorporated into the scheme layout.
Over 250 trees are to be planted in green spaces around the development to help with biodiversity.
Caddick Construction were appointed to the project via a Direct Selection under the EN:Procure New Build Framework to promote early contractor involvement and de-risk the project to bring greater value to Hull City Council.
Caddick Civil Engineering were also appointed to deliver the groundworks ahead of the main construction work.
The EN:Procure technical team have been heavily involved in the pre-contract stage, undertaking a detailed design and constraints exercise, costs and buildability. The design was influenced by constraints parameters identified, with a bespoke suite of house types and innovative SUDS solution to ensure a cost-effective and deliverable layout was submitted for planning.
The scheme also has added value around sustainability and delivery of five apprenticeships through EN:Able Futures Flexi-job Apprenticeship Services. Two of the apprentices are learning bricklaying skills at NHBC’s Construction Hub in North Bransholme.
Cllr Paul Drake-Davis, Hull City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Regeneration and Housing said: “Dane Park is one of the biggest council house new build developments to start in Hull for many years. As well as building 99 well designed, energy efficient, family homes, these much-needed houses will enable the Council to play its part in tackling climate change and, just as importantly, help our tenants save money with lower electricity and heating bills.”
Paul Dodsworth, Caddick Construction Group Managing Director said: “We are proud to be growing our presence on frameworks such as EN:Procure, which help to drive high standards in project delivery. Through early engagement between our team, our client and project stakeholders we can ensure that all public sector projects are delivered efficiently and with real value for money. With all aspects of the build included in this framework, from site preparation and remediation to civil engineering, we are able to create further efficiencies by working closely with our civils arm, Caddick Civil Engineering.”
