Ground broken on new affordable homes scheme in Hull

Together Housing Group and Esh Construction have broken ground to deliver 65 new affordable homes 3 miles from Hull city centre.  Efficiency North were the land promoter for the site.

The project comprises 31 two-bedroom, 28 three-bedroom and 6 four-bedroom homes with accompanying private rear gardens and parking facilities to be built on land opposite the Freedom Centre, between Ryehill Grove and Wyton Grove. The new homes will be marketed for affordable rent.

As part of ongoing commitments from both organisations to deliver homes suitable for a diverse community, 16 of the homes on the development will be built to suit those with accessibility needs.  These will be built with features such as a step-free access, increased circulation space and potential for future adaptations including level access showers at ground floor in the three-bedroom homes.

Dai Howells, Assistant Director of Development at Together Housing Group said: “We’re thrilled to have broken ground on another exciting housing project in partnership with Esh Construction. Together, we align on our ambitions to deliver high quality and affordable homes that will in future, support people and families who want to build roots in the city.

“The addition of adaptable homes will help to increase the availability of affordable homes for those with accessibility needs and supports the need to develop more diverse communities built for all to benefit from.”

Simon Woodward, Operations Director at Esh Construction, said: “This latest project builds on the success of two previous developments delivered by Esh in partnership with Together Housing, which have provided over 160 affordable homes in Halifax and Doncaster in the past two years.”

“By utilising our land-led solution to bring the latest project forward, a huge collaborative effort has taken us through the planning phase, and we’re excited to see it take shape in the coming months.”

Richard Greenwood, director of operations for new build at EN:Procure said, “We’re delighted to see this land led scheme progressing to site. EN:Procure provides both framework procured and land led partnership new build housing schemes to provide a range of service synergies to bring benefits and advantages for Efficiency North members.”

Ward Hadaway provided Esh with legal support in the land transaction. Esh Construction will be supported through the development by Acanthus WSM Architects, Eastwood and Partners and CPC Project Services LLP.

The scheme is expected to complete in early 2027.
