Independent Director Nigel Leighton retires from EN board

Nigel Leighton hands independent board director baton on to EN:Able Communities Chair Ken Taylor

Nigel Leighton has retired as independent director following his final board meeting on Thursday 20 June after 6 years serving on the holdings board.  Nigel brought extensive knowledge and outstanding strategic and commercial skills, gained from over 35 years in senior roles in local authority procurement, covering not only building services but also civil engineering, housing, leisure and environmental services. He is also a recognised leader and innovator in regional construction procurement frameworks.

Nigel hands the independent director baton on to Ken Taylor, Chair of Efficiency North’s charitable arm, EN:Able Communities CIO. Ken brought over 25 years’ experience of working at executive director, board and ambassadorial levels across all sectors, working within deprived areas across Yorkshire.  His skills, knowledge and experience have had a considerable impact on steering EN:Able Communities’ evolving activities in support of communities served by Efficiency North’s social housing membership to help residents and tenants live well in warmer homes. Ken was appointed Chair of Berneslai Homes in December 2023.

Chief Executive Lee Parkinson, who presented Nigel with a gift of a golfing break voucher and Efficiency North branded golf ball set on behalf of the board and executive team, said; “Nigel’s extensive experience of the public sector construction and built environment procurement landscape has been a real asset to the company over the last 6 years. He has provided valuable and constructive challenge to the development of the company’s procurement offer whilst maintaining a keen eye on member interests and their needs. His attention to detail and authoritative, supportive approach has been of great value to the executive team as we have navigated a pathway through some of the greatest challenges that the company has faced. On behalf of all of the executive team at Efficiency North, we wish Nigel the very best for the future and we very much look forward to working with Ken and drawing upon his considerable experience in the sector.”
