The completion of nearly 100 affordable homes in Tinsley, Sheffield, was marked following the successful collaboration of a number of key partners including Homes England.
EN:Able Build Chair Mark Jones, Efficiency North Chair Pauline Davis, and Chief Executive Lee Parkinson were honoured to join Peter Denton, CEO of Homes England, Sheffield MP Clive Betts, Caddick Construction Limited and Sheffield City Council at the event to celebrate the completion of Together Housing Group’s outstanding new affordable housing scheme on Monday 16 September.
The delivery of the 93 homes was facilitated by EN:Able Build, a specialist in delivering affordable housing in the North of England and part of Efficiency North. Following outreach to its members in 2020, EN:Able Build strategically partnered with developer and contractor Caddick and the social landlord Together Housing Group to facilitate the land sale and construction contract.
The Ferrars Road site was part-financed with more than £4m from the Homes England affordable homes funding programme.
Richard Greenwood, director of operations at EN:Able Build, said the scheme was the perfect example of how facilitating the right relationships across the sector brings results.
“Doing so ensures homes are delivered in areas where they’re needed most, and where people want to live,” said Richard. “We need to stop pulling in different directions when it comes to solving the housing crisis, and by developing high demand areas, we’ll be able to reach the needs of local councils, registered providers and developers.”
With Sheffield City Council facing unprecedented demand for social and affordable housing, the deal has ensured that vital new properties are being delivered through effective public and private sector partnerships. Now complete, Ferrars Road offers two-, three-, and four-bedroom homes tailored to families, with many residents already successfully moved in.
Richard added: “It’s been a great opportunity working with all partners on this site to bring the project to fruition, and to see the impact it’s already having on local families who were previously based in temporary accommodation – benefiting from the homes is all we could hope for.”
Yorkshire home grown business, and main contractor on the project, Caddick Construction Group brought plans for these energy efficient homes to life, through a phased programme. Under the government’s ambitious new housing targets, the final build at Ferrars Road sets the bar for what can be achieved in high-quality and affordable new homes.
Together Housing Group has worked in partnership with Caddick Construction and EN: Able Build to deliver the Ferrars Road scheme, harnessing the best out of partnership working. In addition to the development of affordable homes, the partnership has maintained a positive working relationship with local businesses and residents to leave behind a legacy that will benefit the area for many years to come.
Peter Denton, chief executive of Homes England, said: “One of our key objectives is increasing the supply of quality affordable homes and we are committed to supporting stakeholders of all sizes to achieve their ambitions.
“Ferrars Road is a prime example of how we work collaboratively with partners to achieve our mission to build much needed new communities that people can be proud to call home.
“This development also complements our work so far in Sheffield, where we have already provided funding to support two new communities as part of a wider collaborative project, demonstrating our commitment to the regeneration of the city.”
