Efficiency North Supports Damp & Mould Action and Awareness Week

Damp & Mould Action and Awareness Week (21–26 October 2025) shone a spotlight on the importance of tackling damp and mould in homes — an issue that continues to affect the health and wellbeing of many residents across the UK. This year’s campaign took on even greater significance as social landlords prepare for the introduction of Awaab’s Law on 27 October 2025. This is big news for tenants, families, and landlords across England’s 4 million social rented homes — because from today, “we’ll get to it soon” just isn’t good enough any more.

Named in memory of two-year-old Awaab Ishak, who tragically lost his life in 2020 due to prolonged exposure to mould, Awaab’s law puts healthy homes front and centre. Social housing landlords must now act fast in response to reports of damp and mould:

⏰ 24 hours – to fix emergency health & safety hazards

⏰ 10 working days – to investigate reports of significant damp and mould

⏰ 5 working days – to make homes safe after inspection

⏰ 3 working days – to update tenants with inspection findings

Efficiency North supported this important campaign to raise awareness and help customers take effective action to improve housing quality.

We’re here to help our customers hit those new standards without the stress. Through our frameworks, we offer a range of ready-to-go solutions:

Since 2023 our charity EN:Able Communities has worked with members, contractors and suppliers to deliver training workshops tailored to the needs of tenants, residents and staff.

Damp, Condensation and Mould awareness workshops provide practical knowledge and advice to help social housing residents identify, prevent and manage common issues in their homes. Through interactive sessions, residents learn about the causes of damp and mould, how to reduce condensation, and effective ways to maintain a healthier living environment.

Using this knowledge throughout Damp & Mould Action and Awareness Week, EN:Able Communities shared:

  • Practical tips to help prevent condensation and mould
  • Myth-busting facts about common damp issues
  • Feedback from social landlords and residents who have benefited from our training designed to directly address damp and mould in homes

Together, we can create safer, healthier homes for everyone.
