United Living take on four new bricklayer apprentices from EN:Able Futures

New apprentices get to work on EN:Able Build developed site in Harrogate

United Living have recruited four new Bricklaying apprentices through EN:Able Futures to work on their site in Harrogate, building housing on land developed by EN:Able Build, operating as part of Efficiency North to facilitate the building of projects that might otherwise have been delayed or not developed at all.

Isaac Richardson, Ben Kay, Lewis Duncan and Jamie Guthrie are aged between 16 and 18 years old and each bring their own unique set of skills and attributes to the table. Our apprentices and have shown that they are re eager to get started with their apprenticeships, learning new skills and getting work experience alongside their qualifications to begin their Bricklaying careers.

So far, our apprentices have been getting stuck-in with a variety of bricklaying tasks including laying 100ml blocks, trowel work, spreading the bed and pointing work.  Apprentices have also been loading and stacking bricks and getting mortar on to the blocks, general tidying and keeping work areas clear.  Additionally, they have been cutting blocks with hand tools.

D. Cartwright, Line Manager, United Living - ‘’Jamie has shown a great willingness to learn on site and shown initiative, even though it’s only been two weeks. Lewis has immediately settled in as part of the team and on first impressions seems eager to learn. Isaac already seems settled into life as a bricklayer and Ben has settled in very well, he has bonded with his squad and has even been offering beam filling advice to other apprentices’’.

Tracy Worsnop, Development Coach, EN:Able Futures - ‘’Our fabulous four bricklaying apprentices are working hard on site though a difficult time with the Covid pandemic. All are keen to learn and have settled into site life working within their ‘ bricklaying gang bubbles’, developing skills and learning a trade for life from the experts at Buildroute.  They are already an invaluable part of the team helping to build high quality new homes in Harrogate.’’
