Help for Selby District Council apprentices

EN:Procure presents tool kits to Selby District Council apprentices

It was with great pleasure that we recently handed over sets of brand new toolkits to the apprentices at Selby District Council.

Edward Wake, an electrician apprentice and Tom Wilcock, plumbing apprentice, were given the toolkits by our Social Value Manager, Paul Mitchell and the leader of Selby District Council, Cllr Mark Crane.

The apprentices have been working at the Council since last September – their apprenticeship takes place over three years, with four days on the job learning and one day of classroom based learning at Selby College.

The scheme is run by us, Efficiency North, in partnership with the Council. The initiative gives young people the chance to gain skills and experience working in a real life environment.

Edward and Tom are part of the team that repairs and maintains Council tenants’ homes.

Some of the work they have completed includes the re-wiring and plumbing of the Council’s vacant properties that are being prepared for new tenants.

Paul Mitchell, Social Value Manager from Efficiency North, commented, Selby District Council have been long-term supporters of Efficiency North and the frameworks we operate, we were only too pleased to be able to support two residents that we know will have a positive and productive experience within the maintenance team in Selby. These toolkits are to help make sure that they are fully prepared to carry out their daily tasks, we’ll also be looking at other ways of supporting them too, including access to our Health and Wellbeing scheme and travel allowance, so we’ll be in regular contact with them both to ensure that they’re progressing with their qualification.”

Cllr Mark Crane, Leader of Selby District Council, commented, “It’s great to meet our apprentices and I wish Edward and Tom every success in their career. Giving young people a chance to shine is really important and it helps make Selby District a great place to live and work.”
