Efficiency North are pleased to welcome Matt Abbott, our very first Poet in Residence. Matt has travelled all over the UK in his prospering poetry career and has appeared at The Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2017. Matt’s roots also lie in Yorkshire, having been born in Wakefield. Matt is also an ambassador for Trinity Homeless Projects and CRIBS International; Poet-in-Residence at the National Coal Mining Museum for England; and a resident CP at The Hepworth Wakefield.
Over the next few months, Matt will be working closely with some of the community projects that have achieved fantastic things with grants from the EN:Able Community Investment Fund. We are very excited about working together with Matt to enhance the positive difference we can make to communities in Yorkshire.
Matt Abbott commented, "I'm honoured to be appointed as Efficiency North's first ever Poet-in-Residence. My poetry has always been about capturing every day life, and being a proud Yorkshireman, I know that these communities will provide a rich vein of inspiration.
"As a social activist, I'm passionate about the work that Efficiency North do, and if I can use my words to help their aims to support regeneration of these communities, I'll be absolutely delighted.
"Projects like this are a dream for a writer. It's right up my street - in more ways than one - and I can't wait to get started! This is what it's all about for me..."
