Construction Management Apprentice hosted by United Living

Billy Marshall is doing a Level 4 Construction Management Apprenticeship and is being hosted by United Living.

"I have studied this avenue of work since I left school, I started at level 3 and  I'm currently working towards Level 5. I wanted to be a Quantity Surveyor when I first started out, but didn’t find the right opportunity. I got a Site Management apprenticeship and then with the help of EN:Able futures found the Quantity Surveying role I had wanted and have enjoyed doing ever since.

"The apprenticeship has benefited me by allowing me the opportunity to keep studying, and once completed  United Living is allowing me to go to university and get the highest academic level possible, this is something I have always wanted to do. The apprenticeship has allowed me to work on a larger site and develop my skills, I had only previously worked on smaller projects.

"On a daily basis I manage the materials received on site make sure this is all noted correctly. I pay smaller sub-contractors as well as agencies weekly. I have a large involvement in the extra costings of the plots, for example, when a plot uses a higher costing tile than another, I will do this for all 210 plots. I will also help the senior Quantity Surveyor with the monthly valuation, recently I have been given the responsibility of monitoring the progress for the valuation and imputing the costs.

"United Living have helped with my apprenticeship by pushing me to achieve the best, they want me to get to go university and they don’t want me to settle at this level because they believe I can reach the next level. They have also helped with my NVQ, due to my previous role I still had to achieve an NVQ for a site manger and they have understood that I had commitments, they helped with the work I needed to do and have helped me complete this."
