Retrofit training for tenants and residents delivered in partnership with The Retrofit Academy

Connecting tenants and residents in Yorkshire, Humber and the North East to economic opportunity by filling the retrofit skills gap to help tackle the climate emergency.

EN:Able Communities has developed plans to deliver retrofit skills training in Northern England in partnership with The Retrofit Academy.

The new training programmes are part of Efficiency North’s aims to support their social housing landlord membership and tenants and residents communities to decarbonise homes and achieve their goals for net zero carbon by 2050.  Warm, low carbon homes are also important for health and wellbeing.

Thousands of new retrofitters are needed to deliver the decarbonisation needed.  This training will help to address the skills gap and provide employment opportunities to support social housing providers deliver high quality, large scale retrofit schemes.

The first programme, to be delivered in Wakefield, will train 10 people to become accredited in Level 2 Award in Understanding Domestic Retrofit, working with 3 local housing providers.  Having this knowledge of domestic housing Retrofit knowledge will enable them to become Tenant ‘Ambassadors’.

They will be able promote the process, requirements, understand the complexities and barriers of retrofit so that they have built up their capacity to advise social housing officers on this topic as well as talk to their resident peer group and other stakeholders.

Training to commence in 2023

EN:Able Communities signed an exclusive license with The Retrofit Academy to provide domestic residential retrofit related accredited training courses for the Teesside region.  This training will cover a comprehensive suite of courses for PAS2035 accredited training for Retrofit Installers, Coordinators, Assessors and Designers.  EN:Able Communities expect to work closely with the leading social hosing providers in that region as well as their supply chain contractors.

A training plan is currently being mobilised with the first training expected to commence in early 2023.
