Digitally Improving Lives
‘Let’s Get Online’ sees tenant and resident volunteers from Hull City Council be trained to become Digital Champions, enabling them to communicate with and support those who have been left behind or frightened by the digital world.
The project shows individuals how to use different kinds of technology such as laptops, tablets, and mobile phones. “Let’s Get Online” helps people understand the importance of being online for accessing services, seeking work, and managing money, while also highlighting how to use technology for enjoyment and socialising whilst staying safe.
In addition to teaching technical skills, Digital Champions also work in partnership with the local Department for Work and Pensions to help their customers with a variety of employment related needs such as CVs, job searches, and free online training packages. By giving advice on job searching and assisting job applications, they help users take their first steps towards gaining employment.
In just one year, the project helped a total of 170 people gain access to online services, has interacted with a further 159 people in online service workshops, and has trained 10 digital champions.
