A very warm welcome to Unity Homes & Enterprise, the latest social housing provider to join our membership. Unity HA are a BME-led, community housing association committed to meeting the housing needs of black and minority ethnic communities with 1,300 homes throughout Leeds by providing choice, improving life opportunities and addressing inequalities.
In collaboration with Leeds City Council, Unity Enterprise secured funding from the European Regional Development Fund through the council’s Creative Workspace Fund, to refurbish the 4 storey Leeds Media Centre in Chapeltown. The centre is currently home to a range of independent media and music companies, education providers and community projects.
Spaces currently unused within the building will be repurposed into new small business units and a new business incubator hub with meeting areas.
Unity are now working with EN:Procure through both the Framework and DPS for installation works to deliver a significant upgrade to the building, replacing windows, doors, kitchens and lifts. Works will also include an upgrade to the roof with a tapered insulation system, replacement of the external building envelope, and installation of new high performing energy efficient heating and ventilation systems with provision for renewable energy solutions. All works will ensure that the centre remains fit for purpose until at least 2038.
Work is expected to be completed and new units available for occupation by summer 2023.
Emma Mottram, EN:Procure Director of Operations, said, “We are delighted to be working with Unity Homes and Enterprise to help them deliver this exciting project. We look forward to building a longer-term relationship to support their efforts to improve homes and facilities for BME communities in the Leeds area.
