The building of the Humber Construction Hub is progressing well at its site off Warne Road in Bransholme, Hull.
Fencing is up, tarmac is laid and Portacabins are installed, along with installation of lighting, septic tank and storage containers.
Local contractor Excel Modular Buildings are leading on the development using local labour, as are sub-contractors M.B. Roche & Sons.
Nigel Hollington, Humber Construction Hub Manager, said: “In a few short weeks’ time the Humber Construction Hub will open its doors to local people who are keen to enter the construction industry with a work ready skills and experience such as Health & Safety in Construction and CSCS card qualifications.
“Learners are referred to the Hub through local training providers and once their training is complete, they go onto do work experience within the industry. One learner, Conner Calvert (pictured), has already gone onto become a full-time apprentice with our site sub-contractor M.B. Roche & Sons.”
Daniel Roche, Director of M.B. Roche & Sons, said: “We were really impressed with Conner during his two-week work experience working on the Hub site, so much so that we employed him as an apprentice, and because he’d already had the training we require for him to work on site, he could start straight away.”

Providing an outdoor classroom in a real construction environment the Humber Construction Hub is on track to begin delivering practical construction skills training from October. What makes the Hub unique is its focus on high quality training that will enable learners from the Hull and Grimsby area to leave the Hub with industry recognised qualifications. Learners will also be supported EN:Able Futures to find jobs and apprenticeships in the sector.
As a not-for-profit, the Humber Construction Hub relies on the good will of local businesses who can provide sponsorship and donations that will support the training programmes provided by the Hub.
