The WYAC Environmental project allows local young people to grow their own fruit and vegetables within the local community under the guidance of older members of the community. Produce grown is saleable, enabling the young people to set up a social micro enterprise in partnership with local amenities.
Building on the project’s success to date, funding was needed to extend the area under cultivation and erect protective fencing, in order to increase cultivation and widen the promotion of healthy living and healthy eating.
Key Benefits and Outcomes Delivered
The community has been brought together to work on the project, continuing to help break down social barriers between older and younger generations. The young people have not only increased their knowledge but also respect for the older generation, building further on the strong sense of community and common purpose already established by the project.
